Tortilla joins sugary drinks campaign

By James Russell: Tortilla joins sugary drinks campaign

October 20, 2015

Tortilla has announced it is levying 10p on all its drinks which contain added sugar.  The proceeds of the sugar levy will be donated to The Children’s Health Fund, launched and run by the charity Sustain and supported by Jamie Oliver.  The levy will be made across Tortilla’s restaurants nationwide including Cardiff, Brighton and Birmingham from 19th October 2015.

Raising awareness of the dangers

Richard Morris, Managing Director said “We’re delighted to show our support and be part of this campaign. It really is a valuable cause and it is essential to raise awareness of the dangers of consuming too much sugar. We hope that our involvement in the campaign will continue to raise awareness of this issue as well as divert funds to such a worthwhile cause.”

Gloria Davies-Coates, Children’s Health Fund Manager, “We’re thrilled that Tortilla have chosen to partner with us. The Children’s Health Fund has been set up to raise awareness of the impact that sugary drinks have on our children’s health and to make sure the money raised from the sugary drinks levy will make a difference to children across the UK. Working with Tortilla helps us move a step closer to showing government that they need to take action.”

The Children’s Health Fund

The Sugar Levy is an initiative set up by Sustain whereby participating restaurants in the UK will donate 10p (before tax) from the sale of every soft drink with added sugar to the Children’s Health Fund. The Children’s Health Fund is a charitable fund, run by an advisory board, of specifically appointed experts and individuals from various charitable and educational organisations managed by Sustain. The Children’s Health Fund has been set up to fund various charitable projects and initiatives to benefit children.
