The Sunday Times crowns Foxhill Manor “Hotel of the Year 2015”

By James Russell: The Sunday Times crowns Foxhill Manor “Hotel of the Year 2015”

October 13, 2015

Farncombe Estate’s eight-bedroom hotel Foxhill Manor has won The Sunday Times “Hotel of the Year 2015”. The title comes just seven months after its launch as a private house hotel.

Steve Bleach, editor of The Sunday Times Travel section and one of the judges, said “…Foxhill Manor is absolutely the most romantic hotel I have ever stayed in…it is worth every penny.” He added, “…it is subtly, seductively different from any hotel I’ve stayed in before.”

A philosophy that is working

The incredibly stylish Foxhill Manor opened its doors in March this year. Its philosophy has always been clear: to ensure guests feel like they are staying in a private home, with great friends who have impeccable taste and who have thought of everything. A philosophy that is evidently working.

The grade II listed Arts and Crafts manor house was built in 1909. Careful consideration of the interior design has ensured all that is best about the original house – the Cotswold stone, sweeping staircase, mullion windows and open log fires – has been kept, and just imbued with a new spirit. When it comes to food, there are no set menus or meal times. It’s whatever guests want, wherever they want it; a four-course gourmet experience in the dining room, a burger and chips in the movie room, or club sandwich in their bedroom. With up to 16 guests only, it works.

The hotel is on the same 400-acre private estate as the celebrated boutique hotel and spa Dormy House and The Fish, the estate’s budget boutique offering, and most recent opening. The estate promised lots of adventures; from woodland strolls and a visit to the Japanese Garden to a horseback hack, a game of tennis or a mountain-bike ride.

The Foxhill Manor hosts will also run guests up to Dormy House so they can enjoy the spa or dine in one of the restaurants.

All three hotels were included in the Sunday Times “Ultimate 100 British Hotels 2015”. Dormy House in the spa category and The Fish within the family section.

Andrew Grahame, CEO of Farncombe Estate said, “This is a wonderful recognition for everyone involved in all three hotels across the estate and we could not be more thrilled. But a huge well done has to go to our outstanding Foxhill Manor team; their dedication and passion to provide the best possible levels of service for our guests. 2015 has been a great year for Foxhill Manor and for Farncombe and I am even more excited about all we have in store for 2016.”
