Japanese success at Rugby World Cup leads to changed menu

By James Russell: Japanese success at Rugby World Cup leads to changed menu

October 15, 2015

In ode to Japan – confirmed as hosts for the 2019 Rugby World Cup – Wesley’s Café, situated in Central Hall Westminster and operated by Kudos, has responded to increased public demand by developing and introducing a variety of cultural Japanese dishes to cater for the ever-growing hype that is currently surrounding the sport of rugby.

Kudos’ change of menu at Wesley’s Café is additionally benefited by the appearance of a large promotional marquee situated outside Central Hall Westminster and the QEII centre which is seen to continuously attract a large footfall to the area, promoting Japan in both sport and culture.

Acting fast, the team at Kudos immediately acknowledged this change and adapted their marketing plan and menu accordingly.

Kudos’ adaptations to Wesley’s Café menu include chicken yakitori (pictured above) which is a traditional Japanese dish that translates as skewered chicken. The dish is usually served with shiitake mushrooms and spring onions and the ingredients are conventional enough to gain popularity quickly among customers. Another change to the menu is the kalsa curry with rice dish which is idiosyncratic in nature and features breaded pork in an exquisite curry dish that will set hearts and minds racing and most definitely returning for more.

Japanese rugby is making front page headlines across media outlets due to their world record-breaking viewing figures, which exceed 25 million viewers. This information is seeping through online news, social media and the British press, further increasing awareness about Japan’s role in rugby.

Due to this publicity and awareness, and Kudos’ change in menu direction, the café is attracting an increased footfall and its customers are experiencing a taste of Japan and its success in the current sporting climate.
