ISS mobilises at Homerton

By James Russell: ISS mobilises at Homerton

October 16, 2015

ISS Facility Services has successfully mobilised the new Facility Management Services contract at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in east London.

The new contract, worth more than £45m over the initial 5-year term, will see ISS provide patient catering, retail catering for staff and visitors, healthcare cleaning, portering and security services. The contract will also include the management of window cleaning, pest control, linen and waste management. Over 300 staff will transfer to ISS from other providers.

This is the first time in many years that the various services have been provided by a single provider. The contract will also see further investment being provided by ISS in refurbished retail facilities for staff and visitors and a totally new cleaning system for the healthcare cleaning team.

Revised patients’ food service

In November 2015 the patients’ food service will also be completely revised, offering a new meal delivery service with a dedicated host/hostess service and hydration carts, along with a new Room Service Menu and a tablet-based ordering system. This new system will allow the host/hostess to get information back to the kitchen at the touch of a screen.

About the client

Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides general and specialist hospital services and community health services in Hackney and the City. Last year the hospital admitted 63,000 patients, saw over 236,000 outpatients and delivered over 5,500 babies. Every day the A&E team saw an average of 325 patients and became the first such team in the country to be rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Trust Chief Executive Tracey Fletcher said: “We want a facilities service which offers high standards whilst providing good value for money. ISS met these requirements in its tender. We shall now work very closely with ISS to ensure that the high standards are maintained at all times in these key services to our hospital and that our patients, staff and visitors benefit from these improvements.”

Philip Leigh, Chief Operating Officer for ISS Facility Services said: “We are delighted that Homerton has invited ISS to be their partner going forward. Bringing all the various services in to one team will.
