M Restaurants swept the board at the annual Harpers Awards taking home two prestigious awards for Best New Opening and Best Front of House/Sommelier going to M Wine Director, Zack Charilaou.
Since opening in December 2014, M has received both resounding critical and public acclaim and has become a City ‘hotspot’ of choice. The venue was also recently shortlisted for ‘Best Newcomer 2014’ in the BMW Square Meal Awards and will open its second site, M Victoria, six months ahead of schedule before the end of this year.
Williams attributes the success of M thus far to his team: “I created an amazing team of talent who have made the brand and venue thus far synonymous with quality – whether that be in terms of either hospitality or offering.”
Executive Chef Michael Reid, who finished a two year stint with acclaimed ‘Rock Star Chef’ Shannon Bennett in Melbourne has headed this up with Head Chef Jarad McCarroll (formerly Chiltern Firehouse) and Francesco Cappucci, who was previously at Cecconis and Massimo’s.

Ahead of the Victoria opening, M will open a specialist wine shop in the heart of Victoria. Devised by M CEO Martin Williams and Zack Charilaou, M WINE STORE and MWINESTORE.COMwill offer aretail shop offering premium and unusual restaurant wines to enjoy at home from the six countries from which M sources its steaks (USA, Argentina, France, Italy, South Africa, and Australia).
The store will also feature state-of-the-art tasting machines in a welcoming environment. Daily tastings will take place on a mezzanine-level tasting table that can accommodate up to 20 guests.
