Polaris Plastics dispense with the mess

By James Russell: Polaris Plastics dispense with the mess

July 6, 2015

Last week we met with Paul Wilkes, Business Development Director at Polaris Plastics, who are a specialist supplier of standard and bespoke refuse sacks. Their track record in the supply of refuse sacks to the janitorial and catering markets has established its credentials as the UK’s most dependable company.

Polaris Plastics has just introduced a new dispensing system – eSackTM.  Can you tell us more?

Our new eSack™ range revolutionises the dispensing of refuse sacks. Using eSackTM means you can ‘dispense with mess’.  It has been designed with the environment and efficiency at the forefront and is making the flat packed systems that have dominated the market for 30 years a thing of the past.

Caterers can also remove the cardboard out of the kitchen with the easy to store eSack on a roll.

What makes eSackTM different?

eSack™ customers can have a fixed wall mounted dispenser that facilitates tidy and efficient dispensing or a portable integrated dispenser which is ideal for smaller kitchens or catering facilities where space is at a premium.  Outside catering events are also ideal users of the system.

eSack™ is available in a range of weights and colours, ensuring there is an option to suit multiple applications.  The sacks are non-gusseted and leak proof, meaning they are hygienic and the large capacity rolls minimise the time refilling the dispenser.

Customer feedback has been incredibly positive and we have already expanded the range to include heavy duty sacks.

Refuse sacks now available within the eSackTM range are CHSA accredited light, medium and heavy duty as well as pedal and swing bin liners.

What was behind the development of the eSackTM range?

There has been little innovation in this market during recent decades. For far too long caterers have simply had to cope with the inevitable mess of refuse sacks spewing out of the box.  We wanted to solve this problem.

We started by really getting under the skin of the end users to understand the pressures and demands they faced, in particular how, where and when they use refuse sacks.  We took the time to talk to our distributors and then end users, the real experts who know what happens in the day-to-day working environment.

We turned these insights into the specification for our new eSack™ dispensing system.

Is it right that you provide refuse sacks for major events?

Yes that’s correct.  We have just provided over 100,000 sacks to the organisers of the Glastonbury Festival.

The sacks, provided by the same Polaris distributor for the last two years, were chosen for their environmental credentials.  They conform to the international environmental standard EN 14342 giving the organisers the assurance that the sacks will fully compost. The compostable sacks are tested to compost naturally and in industrial composting facilities as well as anaerobic digestion facilities.

We have provided our eco-friendly compostable refuse sacks to other major events, including the London 2012 Olympics and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

You have a reputation for delivering high quality service.  How do you make sure you get it right for your customers?

At Polaris Plastics we have an unequivocal commitment to first class customer service.

Our stated objective is “to consistently exceed the expectations our customers have of us”.  Bringing this to life we were a founder member of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers’ Association’s Manufacturing Standards Accreditation Scheme for Plastic Refuse Sacks.  We are still a committed member, which means the independent CHSA inspector audits our products at least twice a year.

How important are your environmental credentials to you?

We always put the environment at the heart of what we do.  Our eSack™ refuse sacks, for example, are made from 100% recycled polythene and the packaging of the portable dispensing systems from 100% recycled cardboard.

Can you tell us a little about Polaris Plastics background?
