Angry Orchard was first introduced in the US in 2011, and its Crisp Apple style (5% abv) soon became the country’s number one hard cider. It arrives in the UK this autumn and is expected to capitalise on the surge in the popularity of cider, with UK cider sales now worth more than £3 billion. Shepherd Neame is the exclusive importer.
A combination of French bittersweet and Italian culinary apples are used in the drink, which is wood-aged during the fermentation process to add subtle spice and vanilla notes.
Crisp and refreshing, with low carbonation, Crisp Apple is amber in colour, and features a fresh apple aroma and a slightly sweet, ripe apple flavour.
With its bright red twist-off top, and bold label illustration showing the eponymous ‘angry’ apple tree, Crisp Apple is sure to catch the eye.
The drink is also suitable for vegans and gluten free, perfect for that growing consumer market, with sales of gluten-free products in the UK reaching £184 million in 2014.
Brand manager Samantha Catford said: “We are really excited to bring Angry Orchard Crisp Apple to the UK. We hope that British drinkers will agree with us that it is the perfect thirst-quenching drink for summer.”
Crisp Apple will be available on draught in good pubs, restaurants and bars from September, and in 330ml and 500ml bottles from October.
