Artisan coffee roasters 200 Degrees have announced the purchase of their second coffee shop in less than a year. The Nottingham based company started roasting coffee in 2012 and opened to rave reviews in Flying Horse Walk last October before winning a national coffee award and being shortlisted for the Nottinghamshire Food & Drink Awards after just 6 months of trading.
The new site will be in the Gresham Parade development, a few yards from Nottingham Station and the iconic Victorian facade will be completely refurbished by local developers Bildurn in late August.
200 Degrees aim to open their new coffee shop in early October with many familiar elements, whilst adding a few special new ideas for the busy commuters and nearby offices. The shop will not only mean another empty building is regenerated but will also create 15 new jobs and further employment at the 200 Degrees Roast House on Meadow Lane.
Fantastic response to first coffee shop
Tom Vincent, co-owner of 200 degrees said; “We’ve had a fantastic response to our first coffee shop and we are very pleased to have been able to work with local developers Bildurn to secure the second site in the lovely Gresham Parade on Carrington Street.
“The people of Nottingham are really embracing local businesses, and we relish the chance to let our team of highly trained baristas take on the big chains with our own coffee, freshly roasted here in Nottingham.
“Being next to the station and the tram will bring us into contact with a whole new group of people and we will need to be more focused on takeaway drinks and food for busy people on the go. We will however still maintain the stylish and comfortable interior that we offer at Flying Horse Walk for customers who want to sit and relax with a coffee; we’ll even be adding some small booths for quiet chats or meetings. We’ve already begun working with the original brickwork and fittings and we’re hoping to really get to grips on creating another 200 Degrees soon.”
‘Will trade very well’
Sean Akins, Managing Director of Bildurn adds, “Bildurn is delighted to welcome 200 Degrees to this site. We have noticed how successful their coffee shop in Flying Horse Walk has been and believe they offer a great ‘independent’ experience, which contrasts with the sterile approach of ‘chain brands’.
“With the completion of the Hub and NET lines the location is bound to attract an increasing commuter trade. In addition, we estimate that there are approximately 4000 office workers employed in the vicinity already with more to come. We think 200 Degrees will trade very well here.”
200 Degrees have been roasting coffee at their Meadow Lane Roast House in Nottingham in 2012 and now have numerous bar, restaurant and café wholesale customers across the East Midlands, as well as further coffee shops planned across the region.
