UK hoteliers will be aware that satisfied guests will return but, with the UK riding high in numbers of tourist and business visitors, perhaps not all hotels are doing enough to convince their guests of the quality of their service.
Where hotels do well, and where they do not, has just been demonstrated by the booking portal HOTEL INFO, which surveyed more than six million evaluations of their international hotel guests. Both London and the UK score poorly with guests, which cannot be good for the future.
Sheffield top; London last
The absolute winner in respect of guest satisfaction is Sheffield (above) with 8.03 points (Best score 10.0). “The hotels in Sheffield especially distinguish themselves with an above average quality/price ratio as well as a high standard of service and very friendly personnel”, as Jörg Malang, CPO at HOTEL INFO, explained the excellent overall score.
Liverpool is in second place with 7.95. The hotels in Leeds were voted into third place by overnight guests. The city on the River Aire scored 7.82 points.
However the really large cities in the United Kingdom are not so successful in convincing their guests. Birmingham received 7.22 points, whereas the capital only managed 7.12 points. And as a result came last in the list of large cities in the UK.

Guests were the least satisfied with the hotels in London and voted the largest city into last place with just 7.12 points. Copenhagen (7.19) and (7.22) did not do very well either.

The UK was near the bottom of the overall list

* Guests who have booked a hotel at www.hotel.info evaluate the hotel after their departure on the basis of a points’ system (0 to 10 points). In the overall evaluation the criteria room quality, friendliness of the staff, cleanliness, noise, value for money, fitness / spa and the breakfast and gastronomy play an important role. In the ranking the values are rounded up to the second decimal place.
