Six year mission to stay in all Old English Inns

By James Russell: Six year mission to stay in all Old English Inns

June 17, 2015

A retired couple have spent six years travelling the country to stay in all the hotels in the Old English Inns group. Roger Chandler and Barbara Eglinton have dedicated their spare time to staying in all 60 hotels within the Old English Inns chain, making several return visits to their favourites as they went along.

The couple finished their challenge in May at the recently renovated Bull in Halstead. They were greeted by the business unit director for Old English Inns, Peter Hebblethwaite, who congratulated them on being the first to complete such a feat. By way of thanks Peter presented Roger and Barbara with a unique lifetime gold card, giving them a permanent 50% discount off room rates and upgrades to superior suites. They were also given a set of luxury luggage and a Greene King luxury hamper.

Barbara, a former primary school teacher, commented: “We love travelling around the country and after initially staying in a few other hotel chains we stumbled across Old English Inns. We just could not believe what we got there, and for such great value. They are all such different and fascinating historic buildings, we absolutely love them.

“We often visit National Trust properties on our travels, so for us it has been such a pleasure to delve into the past with a stay with Old English Inns at the same time. It really has been a worthwhile adventure and we cannot wait to go back to re-visit some of our favourites.”

Peter Hebblethwaite commented: “When we heard about Roger and Barbara’s plans to visit and stay in all our hotels we were thrilled.

“Old English Inns is unique in that each one of our hotels and pubs has its own character and personality. Like Roger and Barbara, our customers tell us they appreciate the fact they can enjoy modern and comfortable facilities in an historic building, and we strive to offer that mix at the very best value possible.”

Old English Inns is owned by leading pub retailer and brewer, Greene King. Alongside the 60 hotels there are also 54 pubs, several also with rooms that Roger and Barbara have stayed in.

Each Old English Inn offers a comprehensive menu, a range of real ales and a full English breakfast. Added extras such as Wi-Fi and parking are also available for free at all Old English Inns.
