The foodservice industry is being encouraged to sign up for Seafood Week, which makes a return this year from 9th – 16th October. Organised by Seafish, the industry authority on seafood, Seafood Week will focus on the celebration of seafood and provide businesses with a platform for promotional activity during the week.
A key component of the new Seafood Week will be a website, hosted by Seafish’s consumer brand Fish is the Dish, that allows retail, foodservice and processor partners to promote their products free of charge as part of a daily promotion. Each day the site will highlight seafood recipes, restaurant offers and retail products using the themes Cook Me, Dine Me and Buy Me.
Campaign toolkit for foodservice
For the foodservice industry, Seafish is producing a Seafood Week campaign toolkit to assist businesses in undertaking their own promotional activity – the toolkit will include brand assets and guidelines as well as templates for use with PR and social media. Fish is the Dish will also be running its own Seafood Week campaign to spread the message about the benefits of eating seafood, incorporating a national digital media and PR campaign.
Get more people to eat more fish
First launched in 2001 and running until 2008, Seafood Week has enjoyed huge success and provided restaurants, hotels and fish and chips businesses with a platform to promote seafood products via such initiatives such as customer prize competitions, chef challenges and the launch of offering new dishes and products.
Nikki Hawkins, Trade Promotions Manager at Seafish, said: “The aim of Seafood Week is simple – let’s get more people, to eat more fish, more often! We’re looking to set the framework for the week, but to really make a difference we need to get foodservice businesses up and down the country on-board and really help us create a buzz and greater reach to showcase all the great things we know and love about fish and shellfish. It has always been very popular with chefs and restaurants as the week offers a great opportunity to promote seafood and encourage customers to try something new.”
Those interested in taking part in Seafood Week should visit here and register their details to receive the Campaign Toolkit when it is available.
