Café Farm Girl launches on Portobello Road

By James Russell: Café Farm Girl launches on Portobello Road

June 18, 2015

Inspired by a childhood growing up on a rural farm outside Melbourne, Farm Girl brings the relaxed, healthy Australian lifestyle to Notting Hill in June 2015.

The café serves nutritious yet substantial food throughout the day in a relaxed space, where memories of the farm blend seamlessly with a love of travel. Situated at the southern end of Portobello Road, Farm Girl and its secluded al fresco courtyard will offer a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of Portobello Market.

The menu

The menu has been created by Benoit Marmoiton whose experience ranges from cooking at Michelin starred restaurants across Paris, as well as several years working with Chef Joel Antunes, at Brasserie Joel, Embassy Mayfair Brasserie and Le Baron. He has also drawn upon experiences as a private chef to a number of high profile individuals.

Naturopathic Doctor Melly Lou, founder of Liquorice Lifestyle, has advised on nutrition of the menu, ensuring each dish is packed with beneficial, natural antioxidants.

Highlights from the menu include innovative dishes such as the Coconut BLT; coconut bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cashew cream and guacamole and Farm Girl Porridge; millet flakes, chia seeds, coconut, avocado and omega mix. More substantial dishes include the gluten free Farm Boys’ Chicken Schnitzel; ground almond and chestnut flour crumbs, fried in coconut oil.

The Superfood Smoothie menu includes Cacao Smoothie, cacao, banana, lucuma, cinnamon, almond milk, rose, and Green Smoothie, avocado, banana, lucuma, mint, kale, lime, spinach coconut.

The interior

Interiors have been designed by House & Garden’s Top 100 leading interior designers Beata Heuman, and feature extensive, comfortable banquette seating with deep turquoise tiles adorning the walls. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide a light and airy environment, while bespoke graffiti by Pang London brings with it a street-art Guernica feel.

A large farmhouse-style table on the mezzanine floor allows for communal seating and a great location for larger parties. Farm Girl accommodates 45 across the ground floor and mezzanine level.
