BrewDog, the Scottish craft brewery, has appointed Andrew Hatherell as its first Head of International Sales to accelerate its rapid growth in new and existing markets around the world.
The brewery currently exports to 55 countries and Hatherell will be working directly with international distributors to scale its existing operations. Hatherell will also be responsible for strategising the next chapter of BrewDog’s growth by identifying and implementing distribution in new territories to ensure the spread of the craft beer revolution.
Hatherell brings a wealth of experience in building international sales networks having developed AB-InBev’s Asian market strategy as its International Regional Director for the region, where he was responsible for all of the export and licence contractual relationships. Hatherell worked his way up the ranks of the international drinks company from Account Manager to Regional Director over the course of 16 years before being tempted to join the Scottish brewery.
Next step in BrewDog developing its management team
In January this year, the brewery hired David McDowall as its first Head of Bars. McDowall joined the BrewDog team from G1 Group PLC, Scotland’s largest and most diverse leisure operator
As it develops its management team, BrewDog is also feeding its business growth through the latest round of its pioneering investment scheme Equity for Punks, which launched in April this year. In the first three weeks after launch, the brewery raised a world record-breaking £5million, a fifth of its £25million target. The amount raised broke the previous record set by BrewDog in 2013, when it raised £4.25 million (less costs) in just over six months.
The capital raised from investors will be used to fund in particular the expansion of the BrewDog brewery and its international bar division, as well as launching new projects like a craft beer hotel, custom sour beer facility and a distillation plant.
