Harrison Catering Services helped the London Borough of Bexley celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding with the Bexley 50th Birthday Celebration Lunch held at 52 primary schools across the borough.
To make the celebration personal to each school, the caterer, which provides the foodservice for primary, nursery and special schools throughout the borough, had the pupils select the menu for the celebration day by voting for their favourite dishes.
Celebration Cake Baking Competition
The catering teams got into the spirit as well, working together to create fabulous cakes for the Celebration Cake Baking Competition. The finished cakes were photographed for judging by the Mayor of the London Borough of Bexley, CouncillorSybil Camsey, before being displayed during the birthday lunch and donated to the schools.
The team at Mayplace Primary School—Houda Ahnien, Makaladchumy Sathiyaseelan, Sonia Browne and Kay Northwood—won first prize for their cake in the shape of a 50 accompanied by sculpted figures of children enjoying their lunch at dining tables. They were delighted to have their cake selected as the winner and honoured to have the opportunity to present their creation to the Mayor in person on her recent visit to the school.
The team at St Paulinus CE Primary School took second place, St Michael’s East Wickham CE Primary School took third place, and Westbrooke School received a special recognition prize.

Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr John Fuller, said: “All the Harrison staff put so much time, thought and effort into making this event a success. Every catering team submitted an entry in the cake competition—creating some wonderful cakes on top of feeding all our children a great lunch on the day!”
Nicola Turk, Harrison’s Director of Group Schools, said: “It’s a privilege to be entrusted to provide school meals for the children of Bexley, and we’re always looking for new ways to make our menus fun for the children and to offer something extra that benefits them, the teachers, the parents and the borough. Marking 50 years is an important milestone, and we wanted to do our part to help Bexley celebrate.”
