iNTERTAIN searches for new Walkabout venues

By James Russell: iNTERTAIN searches for new Walkabout venues

May 18, 2015

Walkabout operator iNTERTAIN has officially launched its search for new venues with the publication of a comprehensive Property Requirements brochure that will be made available to property agents, owners and developers.

Today’s announcement follows the recent restructuring of iNTERTAIN’s main debt facilities, which included the granting of new long term funding arrangements, enabling the business to restart a major investment and expansion programme.

It also comes just weeks after the acquisition of a site in West Street, Brighton, which will re-open as Walkabout on 21st May.

Evolutionary brand journey

With its first venue opening in 1994, Walkabout quickly became an institution and established itself as the UK’s leading sports and entertainment bar brand. However, commencing in 2013, Walkabout has undertaken an evolutionary brand journey, moving from its 1990s ‘Outback’ roots, towards a contemporary, vibrant and aspirational venue, reflecting modern day Australia.

This evolution, with significant investment across both the brand and culture, has resulted in a broader demographic appeal and has had a dramatic positive impact on the profile of the customer base.

Walkabout now attracts a more discerning customer and has seen a 20% increase in female clientele. According to recent research, Walkabout is now perceived as a “cool”, “modern” and “authentic” venue to be seen in.

Sites in prime locations

iNTERTAIN CEO, John Leslie said: “This is a tremendously exciting time for Walkabout. The evolution of the brand has resulted in Walkabout being seen as an invigorated, sustainable and valuable asset to UK high streets.

Leslie continued: “We’re looking for additional sites in prime locations across the UK, preferably with an existing late license. While we’ll consider shell units and existing retail space with conversion opportunities, we’re ideally looking for existing bars, pubs and clubs.”
