Award winning Geronimo Inns has re-launched The Bull, the only pub in Westfield Shopping Centre at Shepherd’s Bush. Whilst being the only pub may seem a privileged position, it’s also a major challenge: Westfield is not short of good options for eating and drinking, even if they’re not pubs, so Geronimo will have to be on top form to hold their own.
The Bull has undergone a major make-over, which has increased the downstairs dining capacity whilst creating relaxed, comfortable spaces upstairs – such as the outside balcony pictured above – not bad for a sunny afternoon or evening after the stress of shopping? Although the blankets show that it’s used in all weathers!
Drink
The bars upstairs and down now feature a new drinks menu, including today’s required cocktail list, as well as an extensive selection of craft beer and bourbon. On the H&C News visit, it was evident that the eclectic customer base was taking advantage of the wide choice available: these days, it’s not just beer, wine or cocktails, but health and vitality soft drinks and coffee that are required.
Dining upstairs
The new menu offers a wide enough selection to appeal to all tastes – including families – at any time of day.
It offers a range of small dishes including sliders with pork and chorizo and smoky scallop, oyster Rockefeller and English crumpet, smoked salmon and avocado. Soups and salads include New England clam chowder, a classic Caesar salad, and lobster salad with crab and poached egg.
There is also a dedicated breads and brioche section on the menu, featuring The Bull Clubroom sandwich with chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and truffle mayo; and a Reuben sandwich with salt beef, ciabatta, sauerkraut and emmental.
Main courses include the pub classic fare of fish and chips, steak and oyster pudding, as well as guinea fowl Kiev and a selection of steaks.
The pudding offering includes mini Oreo cheesecake, salted caramel doughnuts and chocolate brownie baked Alaska.
The pub also features a new afternoon tea menu as well as a daily brunch menu.
Relaxing upstairs
Not only is there a specific dining area near the kitchen, there is also the opportunity to share and enjoy with friends and family at larger tables (above) or to settle down on a sofa or in an armchair (below).
On our visit, all areas were occupied and being enjoyed…
The Bull is cleverly designed to appeal to the wide audience that works in or visits Westfield: it provides a traditional ‘bar’ environment for those who simply want a refreshing drink, as well as a variety of spaces to suit those who want to eat or relax in a calmer environment.
It presents a complete contrast to the (many) eating establishments that surround it, and looks well set to hold its own with them.
