TV personality and renowned chef Ainsley Harriot will be going on the hunt for the best of Iceland’s street cuisine in Reykjavik in the new TV show ‘Ainsley Harriott’s Street Food’. The episode will air on 31 May on More 4 as part of a six part series.
The documentary aims to educate and entice viewers to join Ainsley on his street food journey around the world, including Reykjavik. With the help of restaurateurs and market stall owners, Ainsley experiences local Icelandic fare before seeking out the best ingredients to create his very own recipes.
Whilst in Iceland, Ainsley and his team visited a number of local restaurants and popular Icelandic hotspots including the popular Grill Market restaurant, the legendary Icelandic hot dog stand Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur and the traditional seafood shack, Saegreifinn (The Sea Baron) in the Old Harbour area of the city.
Ainsley was also guest of honour and judge at Reykjavik’s Food and Fun Festival. The annual festival is held during the last week of February in Reykjavik – celebrating the best of local culinary expertise and fresh ingredients, giving gourmet foodies a taste of exemplary Icelandic dishes.
Showcasing high quality Icelandic cuisine
Ingvar Örn Ingvarsson, project manager at Promote Iceland, said: “We were delighted to welcome Ainsley to Iceland to showcase the best of what our country has to offer as many do not realise the high quality of Icelandic cuisine. We boast fresh and natural ingredients which make the country’s cuisine so unique, such as Atlantic salmon and cod, and the Icelandic sheep which roam free feeding on moss and berries. We are proud of our cuisine and look forward to inspiring more UK foodies to come to Iceland!”
The series editor, David Edgar, said: “Ainsley brings a fresh approach to food and travel. He’s happy cooking in a roadside shack in the tropics, trying new recipes and cooking with unfamiliar ingredients. And for any chef with 30 years of experience it’s thrilling to discover new flavours and ways of cooking.”
‘Ainsley Harriott’s Street Food’ series will premier exclusively on More 4 on 17 May 2015.
