Salutation Hotel wins Green Can Award for recycling

By James Russell: Salutation Hotel wins Green Can Award for recycling

April 13, 2015

The Salutation Hotel in Perth has been recognised for going the extra mile when it comes to drink can recycling, in the first ever ‘Green Can Awards’ initiative, introduced by leading drinks can recycling programme Every Can Counts in 2014.

The ‘Green Can Award’ winning hotel, was shortlisted by a panel of experts against key performance indicators, with an onus on going above and beyond the call of duty to encourage responsible waste disposal and improve recycling uptake in their organisation.

Communications and visible recycling points

The Salutation Hotel excelled in the awards through using communication materials and highly visible recycling points, the business has worked hard to get its staff and visitors involved with the scheme.

Rick Hindley, Executive Director of Every Can Counts, commented: “The Green Can Awards is our way of championing businesses and organisations that have really excelled when it comes to drinks can recycling. We’ve been extremely impressed with how The Salutation Hotel has broken down recycling barriers, especially with holidaying guests who might not always think to dispose of waste responsibly outside the home.

“Through Every Can Counts we help numerous organisations to introduce or improve recycling points and achieve excellent results to be proud of. Passion and awareness of recycling is so important, and initiatives like the ‘Green Can Awards’ not only help to acknowledge outstanding recycling efforts at the time of this event, but provide a goal to work towards all year round.”

Every Can Counts

Launched in 2009, Every Can Counts is a partnership between drinks can manufacturers, leading brands and the recycling industry, focusing on increasing the number of drinks cans recycled in workplaces or by people when they are ’on the go’. The programme now has 1,729 member businesses, and has installed more than 10,000 can recycling points nationwide.

Following on from the success of the 2014 awards, Every Can Counts has launched two rounds of the Green Can Awards in 2015 and is now calling for nominations for the April 2015 deadline.
