Andy Murray’s Cromlix House (above) faces tough competition to retain its title as Scotland’s top hotel following announcement of shortlists for the country’s hotel awards.
The Victorian Perthshire mansion near the tennis star’s home town of Dunblane, transformed into a luxury 15-bedroom and Gate Lodge, was voted 2014’s Hotel of the Year. It is one of six shortlisted for the Luxury Hotel category in the 2015 Scottish Hotel Awards along with Kingsmuir House at Peebles, Kinloch Lodge on the Isle of Skye, Links House at Royal Dornoch, Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort outside Glasgow and the Balmoral in Edinburgh.
Judging of the Awards, which have included three months of mystery visits, take place in nine regions with regional winners eligible to win the national categories. The overall Hotel of the Year is chosen from national category winners.
Restaurant of the Year
Michel Roux senior’s Chez Restaurant at Greywalls, Gullane, is in the running for Restaurant of the Year along with Hotel Colessio (Stirling), Inverlochy Castle (Fort William), Kildrummy Inn (Alford), The Pierhouse (Port Appin), Scalloway Hotel (Shetland), Tontine Hotel (Peebles), Trigony Country House (near Thornhill) and QHotels’ Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort (near Glasgow).
Eight properties are in contention for Romantic Hotel of the Year: Ardanaiseig (Kilchrenan), Knock Castle & Spa (Crieff), Shieldhill Castle (Biggar), The Glasshouse (Edinburgh), Tongue Hotel, Toravaig House (Skye), Tor-na-Coille (Banchory) and Whitehouse Country House (St Boswells).
Among hotels shortlisted in more than one category are Kylesku at Lairg (Informal Dining, Small Country Hotel), Duisdale House on Skye (Informal Dining, Wedding) and the Douglas Hotel on Arran (Bar, Style).
