Carvery Heaven opens 14th site The Pear Tree

By James Russell: Carvery Heaven opens 14th site The Pear Tree

April 6, 2015

The Fairway in Keyworth, Nottinghamsire has re-opened as The Pear Tree following a £250K refurbishment by Star Pubs & Bars, HEINEKEN’s pub business, and lessees Carvery Heaven.

The pub is the 14th site for Carvery Heaven, 11 of which are with Star Pubs & Bars and is the first time Carvery Heaven has ventured into an American themed food offer.  A 12th Star Pubs & Bars site, the Chequers Inn in Cropwell Bishop also a few miles from Nottingham will re-open within weeks following a £300k investment.

Carvery Heaven ran the Fairway for 12 months getting to know villagers and familiarising itself with the local market before finalising its plans for the pub, which has been totally overhauled to create a modern homely environment with an industrial twist.  5m long bi-fold doors have been installed and will fold away on warmer days bringing the outside enclosed patio area in.

New York Diner style food

The Pear Tree has retained a drinking bar but now also features a dining area offering New York diner style food such as burgers, ribs and flame grilled chicken as well as pulled pork steeped in sauces and cooked overnight.

The Chequers, previously a community wet pub, will have a strong food offer whilst retaining its village pub appeal.  A new dining area is being created as well as a new external seating area and new entrance.

As part of the refurbishments HEINEKEN is installing its HEINEKEN Smart Dispense system in both pubs and in the Chequers it will be on display in a visible cellar where customers can see it.

Location and look

Mike Perry, director of Carvery Heaven said of The Pear Tree:  “As with all our sites with Star Pubs & Bars, it was the location and the look of both pubs that attracted us.  Keyworth and Cropwell Bishop are both large sought-after villages, commuter belt territory for Nottingham.  We took our time with the Pear Tree before we hit on a diner pub offer, which is different from the other pubs in the village and has all the makings of a successful family friendly venue.

“Having looked at The Chequers we could see similar opportunity to grow the business and so decided to take that on as well and with the benefit of investment and a new fine dining offer will be able to turn it around.

“The villages around Nottingham offer massive potential for pubs offering great food and drink.  Nottinghamshire has been depressed for some time, but now the economy is picking up people have become more discerning and want somewhere nice to go for a special meal, for entertainment or just for lunch.  We know the market and have a great track record.  Helped by our strong relationship with Star Pubs & Bars and the investment, we’re well placed to deliver what people want.”
