‘Spring Cleaning’ directly linked to guest satisfaction

By James Russell: ‘Spring Cleaning’ directly linked to guest satisfaction

March 5, 2015

P&G Professional, where every experience counts, offers spring cleaning advice to help businesses thrive

04 March, 2015 – The summer months are typically a thriving period for the hospitality industry, as an increase in tourism and warmer temperatures encourage locals and visitors to venture outdoors. Core to drawing in customers and increasing sales is of course ensuring you are ready to give your customers the best possible experience. Cleanliness can make or break a business’ reputation in the hospitality industry, so as the warmer months approach, now is the time to invest in spring cleaning to ensure you make the right impression on your guests.

A pan-European study of over 4,000 respondents commissioned by P&G Professional revealed that a staggering 97 per cent of hospitality guests felt that cleanliness is the most important factor when choosing a restaurant, café, bar or hotel – more important than cost, service, location and little perks. P&G Professional, the out of home division of Procter and Gamble,  has consistently provided hospitality businesses with the complete range of cleaning products to respond to every need; from heavy duty cleaners and degreasers capable of tackling the toughest kitchen tasks, to disinfectants, floor cleaners and laundry detergents that provide best in class cleaning in just one wash.

The European study also found if hospitality operators want their staff to secure more tips from paying guests, then cleanliness is the number one deciding factor – 90 per cent of respondents felt that cleanliness is important when deciding whether or not leave a tip with the bill – proving that cleanliness really does pay, both from a staff retention and guest satisfaction perspective.

To support businesses further during the important spring cleaning season, P&G Professional has compiled the following tips:

  • Don’t neglect areas you can’t see – Toilet cleanliness and hygiene is often an afterthought in hospitality establishments but they should be front and centre – people will judge your business on the state of the washroom. Using a sanitary cleaner such as Flash Professional Sanitary Cleaner can make a world of difference.
  • Cheaper does not always mean better value – As with many choices in business, when it comes to cleaning products, lower cost does not always translate to best value. Using quality cleaning products with concentrated formulas can actually save you money in the long term, as you use less and they power through jobs faster. Your team will also be grateful for making their job easier.
  • Consider multi-purpose products – There are many cleaning products available that effectively clean a variety of surfaces, such as Flash All Purpose Cleaner. Another option is our Flash Antibacterial Multisurface Cleaner, a great multi-purpose product – the 3 in 1 spray is ready to use for disinfection, cleaning of interior surfaces and glass cleaning. Just make sure you read the label to ensure you’re using the right product on the right surfaces.
  • Reduce costs with the correct dosage – There is no need to use more detergent than required, especially when budgets are being squeezed and independent hospitality operators are constantly asking how they can keep costs low and improve profit margins. Ensure you use the right amount of product by checking the dosage instructions or using Ariel Professional’s Auto-Dosing laundry system.

Liz Rogers, Commercial Director UK & Ireland for P&G Professional explained; “Remember there are no shortcuts when it comes to cleaning! A clean kitchen, shiny table top, spotless crockery and crisp, white linen all contribute to creating a pleasant experience for your customers and can have a direct impact on a business’ bottom line. P&G Professional products are designed to serve the highest standards of cleanliness to allow hospitality owners to create that crucial good first impression for their customers!”
