Kona Restaurant launches at Taj 51, Buckingham Gate

By James Russell: Kona Restaurant launches at Taj 51, Buckingham Gate

March 16, 2015

Taj’s Chef Tom Cruise, under the direction of Executive Chef David Tilly, has launched Kona at the five star Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences in London. The 46-cover Kona offers an innovative interpretation of the colours, flavours and vibrancy of Southern European cuisine, marrying traditional cooking techniques from the Côte d’Azur and the coast of Liguria in Italy with a modern flair.

Tasting portions tempt gourmands with an explosion of organic ingredients and aromas. Signature dishes include Lobster Bisque starring Dorset crab and radish, Foie Gras brioche with Damson plum and Marcona almonds and, for meat-loving palates, Gloucestershire old spot pork belly served with spelt and rosemary crumb.

The menu also promises innovative vegetarian and gluten-free cuisine by offering flavoursome salads, soups and inventive options such as Chickpea Panisse with red pepper, yoghurt and baby aubergines as well as King Oyster Mushroom with cauliflower cous cous, apple and red chilli.

Bringing a new dining dynamic to Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences, the restaurant is open for breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. In the morning, guests are spoilt for choice with the ‘Benedict Bar’. In the afternoon, Kona also serves the hotel’s signature 24 Karat Gold Afternoon Tea. A bar menu is also available and thirsty goers can sample Champagnes and award-winning wines from all over the world.

Shades of grey and azure

By pairing shades of grey and azure, the interior design comprises an elegant dining room with a homely, welcoming and exotic feel. The heritage of the Victorian townhouse, home to the restaurant, is well reflected as the décor creates a collage of luxurious furnishings and contemporary design. Magically lit, a separate library room with a fireplace, plump sofas and armchairs is the perfect place to relax with a brandy after dinner.

Executive Chef David Tilly, who has successfully worked for the Taj Group since 2007, comments on the launch: “We are proud to launch Kona during such an exciting time for the London food scene. Our mission is to present guests with uncomplicated dishes, which allow for locally sourced ingredients to take centre stage. Kona will add another string to our bow and prove a great addition to the hotel’s culinary offering”.
