Impressive winners of PACE Awards 2015

By James Russell: Impressive winners of PACE Awards 2015

March 26, 2015

Excellence in the field of hospitality and catering training and education has been celebrated at the PACE (Professional Association for Catering Education) Awards 2015.

Hospitality and culinary education professionals honoured an impressive bank of winners that have all demonstrated a tireless and inspirational dedication to raising the bar of innovation, progression and excellence.

Lifetime Achievement Award

This Award, sponsored by the Craft Guild of Chefs, was presented to Martin Webster, Event Manager of Nestlé Professional, by the Craft Guild’s Vice Chairman, Lee Maycock. Martin (pictured above) was heralded for giving huge service to the sector in promoting colleges as centres of unbelievable achievement in education and training of young people, providing high-profile recognition of the achievements and aspirations of young people, and ultimately driving the Toque d’Or competition to its position of THE competition for the sector.

Geoff Booth, National Chair, PACE, bestowed the National Chairman’s Award to funding consultant Ainsley Cheetham.  A great asset to PACE, Ainsley has been part of the association since it began and has devoted his time to ensuring that colleges attending either regional meetings or the national forum receive the latest intelligence on government funding. He is always mindful to present the highly complex information in an easy-to-understand manner and in the context of the needs of hospitality and catering training.

The 2015 PACE Awards winners:

  • Partnership with Industry Award – Paul Jervis, Westminster Kingsway College and Aileen Moodie, Carluccio’s

This winning partnership provided the judges with a terrific insight into the benefits of the collaboration for chefs that previously had no formal qualifications and how further CPD opportunities have been developed.

  • Best Chef Lecturer Award – Neil Hughes, Bridgend College

Neil stood out from a raft of strong contenders because the passion, dedication and sheer diversity of the provision shone through.

  • Best Hospitality Lecturer Award – Jason Benn, Nelson & Colne College

Jason impressed the judges with his well-written entry that clearly showcased how students have been enabled to grow and develop through innovation, creativity and enrichment, and with the effective use of technology.

  • Best Restaurant Service Lecturer – Jonathan Lyttle, North West Regional College

Jonathan was a clear winner in this category as he demonstrated all aspects of restaurant training where enrichment, innovation, ILT and E&D have all been embedded most effectively.

  • Award for Environmental Sustainability Award – Neil Taylor, Sheffield College

Neil’s winning project exemplified the development of the learners’ understanding and application of environmental sustainability within the curriculum, whilst also reaching out to the local community and higher education, and securing support from the NUS Students Green Fund.

  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Martin Webster, Nestlé Professional
  • National Chairman’s Award – Ainsley Cheetham

The PACE Awards, a highlight of the PACE Learning & Development Forum 2015, took place on the evening of 13 March at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.
