Approaching fifty Cheltenham Festivals and still going strong

By James Russell: Approaching fifty Cheltenham Festivals and still going strong

March 31, 2015

James Rymer – Event Manager

H&C News meets with suppliers regularly to keep up to date with the latest product and service innovations, aiming to get the inside track on what companies offer to the market and how it is delivered.

This week, we met with James Rymer, Event Manager at Jongor Hire at their offices in London to gain a better understanding of the festivals and events side of the business. Jongor Hire provide catering equipment, furniture, tableware, cutlery and all the necessary extras needed to host successful events.

How many Cheltenham Festivals have you done?

Jongor have been supplying the heavy kitchen plant since 2006, so this is our ninth year! Although we were involved in a lesser capacity before that, supplying cutlery, crockery and glassware and Tony and Stuart have racked up 46 Cheltenham Festivals between them!

Just how big is it for Jongor?

The Festival is a great event for us, it’s practically on our doorstep so not be involved would be very disappointing. The Festival boasts the largest tented village of any kind for a sporting event, so Jockey Club Catering utilise a vast range of hired in equipment and site support. In the tented village, every coldroom, oven, sink and everything in between is supplied by Jongor. We also supply CCG for over 50% of the meals served in the village. If you’re enjoying one of the great hospitality options at Cheltenham, the chances are your food was stored in one of our fridges, cooked in our oven, then served on one of our plates!

What was different about this year?

The new layout and building schedule at Cheltenham posed some new obstacles for us this year. Planning and organisation are key to any event, but when the venue is in the throes of a £45million redevelopment, things can become more difficult. There has always been a great team at Cheltenham, facilitating good communication between all relevant contractors on site, and allowing yet another great Festival to go ahead.

What’s next for you? Busy year ahead?

We run straight into Aintree for the Crabbies Grand National meeting after Cheltenham, which is another Jockey Club racecourse. There isn’t quite as much hospitality, but it has its own unique atmosphere that we love being a part of. That’s just the start for us, this year is shaping up to be the largest in our history, culminating with the Rugby World Cup in September/October.

It’s a really exciting time at Jongor, London is busier and busier and we’ve got some great new events this year too. We’re on track to really secure our position at the top of the event hire industry.

H&C News comment: It was a pleasure to meet James to get an insight to the event and festival side of Jongor Hire, just about everything you could ever think of needing to stage a festival or event is available quite literally. So our thanks to James for the interview, and just like when we met his colleagues Tony Carter and Alexa Innes everything at Jongor really is done with a smile.
