The Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar is due to open its doors in early March 2015, bringing the first authentic Japanese Izakaya to the capital. Located adjacent to Oxford Street, the bar will serve an extensive Japanese led drinks menu and freshly grilled Kushiyaki skewers, in a relaxed environment. The concept is based on the pubs and bars found in Japan, acting as a ‘pit-stop’ for a ‘pint and skewer’ before heading home after work.

Designed by London based Japanese designers Total Planner LTD, the ground floor will be focused on casual drinking with a large slate fronted bar, exposed wooden walls and limited seating, and an open kitchen bringing an element of theatre to the space. Downstairs there will be a collection of tables and stools and an additional bar.

20 varieties of skewers

The menu will offer over 20 varieties of skewers and is divided simply into: ‘Kushiyaki’ – grilled skewers served with salt or teriyaki sauce; and ‘Kushiyage’ – fried skewers served with miso and dashi sauce. All of the skewers are freshly cooked to order and are priced from £2.50 for two. The ‘Kushyaki’ skewers will be available in a variety of: chicken – breast, thighs, wings or balls; pork – belly;beef; vegetables – asparagus with bacon, cherry tomatoes and cheese, or grilled leeks. The ‘Kushyage’ skewers will include; chicken breast with cheese; pork tonkatsu; beef katsu; soft shell crab; king prawn; calamari; quail eggs and mushrooms; avocado; courgette among the others.

The drinks offering will include Japanese draft beer, as well as Young’s London Stout, Flying Dogfish and Meantime IPA and Lager, a large selection of Japanese and international bottled beers, as well as wines, Champagne, Prosecco and cider. A variety of speciality Sakes, Shochu, Umeshu and Japanese whiskeys from Karuizawa, Chichibu, Hanyu, Nikka, Suntory Distilleries. The Woodstock will also serve their own signature take on hot drinks including; Matcha latte; Matcha green tea; and Sencha green tea.
