Westquay Watermark in Southampton signs more restaurants

By James Russell: Westquay Watermark in Southampton signs more restaurants

February 3, 2015

Hammerson has signed American burger brand Five Guys and popular casual dining restaurant Nando’s for WestQuay Watermark, its mixed-use, leisure led development in Southampton’s city centre.

Five Guys will take a 368m2 (3,960 ft2) unit, giving the brand its first restaurant in Southampton. Serving its famous high quality, fresh burgers and fries, Five Guys will be located on the upper level of the development.

Nando’s, which is already well established in WestQuay’s popular dining level, will take an additional 318m2 (3,430 ft2) unit in the new scheme. Situated alongside Five Guys on the upper level, the new restaurant will complement Nando’s original outlet and enable it to capitalise on the new dining experience that will be on offer at WestQuay Watermark.

Five Guys and Nando’s join the line up of recently signed Wahaca, Zizzi and Byron, as well as the luxury cinema brand Showcase Cinema de Lux, which will open its first 10 screen digital cinema in the South, forming a key part of the development.

WestQuay Watermark is the centrepiece of Southampton City Council’s VIP ‘Heart of the City’ project, as identified within its City Centre Master Plan that promotes its vision for the city and has received £7 million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund to support the provision of public realm and a new vibrant plaza.

Having started work on site on 5th January 2015, WestQuay Watermark is scheduled to open in autumn 2016 to become Southampton’s new city centre dining and leisure hub.

John Eckbert, CEO at Five Guys UK, said: “Southampton’s city centre was identified immediately as we planned the expansion of the Five Guys brand.  It is a highly successful destination popular with consumers from throughout the region which creates the perfect opportunity for Five Guys.  We look forward to offering our high quality products to hungry customers whether they choose a little hamburger or go all out with a double patty, signature Five Guys style fries and a drink from Coca Cola’s legendary freestyle machine that boasts 250,000 ways to order a drink.”
