Westminster Kingsway wins Wine & Spirits Educator of the Year

By James Russell: Westminster Kingsway wins Wine & Spirits Educator of the Year

February 3, 2015

Westminster Kingsway College Hospitality team has beaten eight finalists to become the first ever further education college to win WSET Global Wine and Spirits Educator of the Year.

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) was founded in 1969 to provide high quality education and training in wines and spirits.  Since then, it has grown into the foremost international body in the field of wines and spirits education, with a suite of sought-after qualifications and a membership body – the Institute of Wines & Spirits.

As part of the competition, the College had to prove that they had made a significant contribution to WSET courses and qualifications in the past year, while achieving excellent results in WSET programmes and demonstrating innovation in education.

At Westminster Kingsway College, WSET courses are taught to students on the Professional Chef Diploma, Restaurant Supervision and BTEC Hospitality courses as well as part-time adult short courses.

Wines and spirits are an essential aspect

Gary Hunter, Westminster Kingsway College Head of Faculty for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, said: “We have always designed our curriculum to ensure that students receive the most diverse hospitality skills throughout their study. Wines and spirits are an essential aspect of any hospitality, food and beverage operation and our expert team deliver these skills through WSET qualifications. I am incredibly proud that the College had been awarded this accolade and it is a fitting tribute to the team’s continued excellence in their teaching and professionalism.”

Westminster Kingsway College has an excellent reputation within the hospitality and catering industry with many famous alumni across the sector. The College offers a unique opportunity to study in central London for vocational qualifications that are tailored direct to employment opportunities.
