The latest insight report from People 1st suggests that the hospitality industry needs to develop a more systematic approach to training. The report reveals that hotels and restaurants alone have invested £2.7 billion on training in 2013, yet 39% of hospitality employers’ report that their staff performance has not improved sufficiently after the training.
People 1st’s Executive DirectorMartin-Christian Kent commented:
“The numbers suggest that training and development are not being systematically evaluated by the employers who are investing in them.
“We believe that it is vital that businesses take a step back and consider what they want to get out of their training before they embark on it. Thinking about how you will measure the success of a piece of training often helps businesses think afresh about how they go about their training.
“We’ve helped a lot of businesses increase their investment from their training using our training evaluation model and it certainly pays to take a bit of time up front if you want to maximise your returns. Harrison Catering is one example of a business that has seen a real impact, with a 424% return on their training investment. We believe that, with adopting a similar approach to training, such returns are possible throughout the industry.”
