Mick McDonnell, Chairman of Plymouth’s Best Bar None (BBN) scheme, is to become National Co-ordinator for Best Bar None. His appointment follows a long and successful career running pubs, mostly in the South West. He was a founder member of Best Bar None in Plymouth.
Announcing the appointment the Chairman of Best Bar None, Robert Humphreys, said “Our National Co-ordinator is the day-to-day leader and guide of the project, the central role in a thoroughly worthwhile organisation. Mick’s enthusiasm and experience admirably equip him for the task. On behalf of the Board and of our sponsors I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”
Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet Member for Cooperatives, Housing and Community Safety at Plymouth City Council said: “Mick McDonnell has been the key driver for the success of the Best Bar None Scheme in Plymouth and has worked relentlessly since 2008 to develop and improve the scheme. He is an expert in his field and has gained much respect from all who work with him. “I would like to wish Mick all the best in his new role and the national scheme’s gain will leave a gap in Plymouth that will be very hard to replace.”
“Best Bar None is growing steadily nationwide with 70 successful schemes in place and 17 more in development,” Robert Humphreys continued, “In town and city centres throughout the country this scheme is delivering better, safer, more professional bars and clubs and reducing harm through partnership. The national organisation is there to underpin the local schemes, to provide support and advice and to celebrate and promulgate success.”
