Fortune magazine, the leading US business magazine, has again been busy seeking to define what most delivers a business reputation. Healthy financial results and share performance are obvious starters, though a UK or European audience is unlikely to agree with all its selections.

Starbucks which, by any standards, is enjoying unprecedented current success, features at 5 – behind such goliaths of the corporate world as Apple, Google, Berkshire Hathaway, and Amazon.
Marriott International features at 37 – the highest and only hotel company in the Top 50.
But not all companies do well: McDonald’s has suffered this last year from consumer criticism and weakening results, culminating in the recent change of leadership. The result: it has slipped down to 46, its lowest rank for seven years.
