Bostock Green welcomes The Hayhurst Arms

By James Russell: Bostock Green welcomes The Hayhurst Arms

February 10, 2015

Chris Beswick, the landlord of the Hayhurst Arms in Bostock Green, was celebrating as the latest Brunning and Price pub opened its doors to customers for the first time this week.

Root and branch transformation

Bostock Green is a model village in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, which boasts reading rooms and a social club, village hall, bowling green, cricket pitch and pavilion. Lately however, the social club proved to be unviable and closed its doors in 2012. Chester pub company Brunning and Price acquired the lease and have spent the last six months on an imaginative root and branch transformation of the property, connecting the former social club to some historic barns at the rear of the building.

The result is impressive. The Hayhurst Arms is a classic country pub in style, with open fires, wooden floors, good old furniture and lots of rugs and plants. At the heart of the pub, centred on the well-stocked bar, is a large and airy room with a really buzzy, chatty and civilised atmosphere, with some more intimate rooms to squirrel away in for those who are so inclined.

““It’s hugely rewarding to see how well it has turned out.” said Chris, ”It’s a very handsome building with character in spades, warm and cosy in the winter, but light and airy when the sun shines, and over-looking the village green we have a large terrace and gardens which will be a fine place for a spot of lunch with friends and family.”

Classic British dishes

Food will be an important part of the Hayhurst Arm’s business. “We’re foodies at heart,” continued Chris. “Our menu has a good backbone of classic British dishes with a smattering of other dishes and influences from around the world to keep things interesting. It’s what you might call modern British cooking.”

At the heart of the Bostock community

Henry Brooks of the Tatton Estate commented, “Congratulations to Chris, his crew and all at Brunning and Price for the triumph that is the Hayhurst Arms!  Brilliant food, great atmosphere and already at the heart of the Bostock community – welcome from all at the Tatton Estate!”

“Some 40 local people have joined the crew,” continued Chris, “and we’ve already been made to feel really welcome by the village. It’s very friendly round here and I know we’re going to be really happy to have settled in such a lovely place.”
