Hilton Edinburgh Airport is the first hotel in Scotland to have been awarded the prestigious Investors in Young People Accreditation, the only people management standard that focuses on an employer’s recruitment and retention of young people.
Launched in July 2014, Investors in Young People originated through a key recommendation from the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce, led by Sir Ian Wood. The accreditation is offered to all businesses across Scotland and exists to recognise and support organisations across Scotland in the employment of young people.
Committing to younger team members
Commenting on the award, Aileen Fraser, Human Resources Director for Hilton Hotels in Scotland, said: “We pride ourselves on recruiting and investing heavily in the talent development of our young team members and are honoured to have received this accreditation.
“All of our team members work extremely hard and show real dedication to their roles. The management team at the hotel understand the long-term benefits of committing time to their younger team members and supporting them in making the most of the development opportunities available to help them progress their careers.”
Stuart Cran, General Manager at Hilton Edinburgh Airport, said: “Our Human Resources Officer, Natalie Laing, has worked hard to recruit a diverse team of young people who have been integrated into every department throughout the hotel. We have developed a culture that encourages team members to support each other through their learning and development, which has resulted in a very positive workplace where young people have really thrived.”
Hilton Edinburgh Airport recruit young people in the local area through partnerships with schools and colleges, and work experience placements. Around 45% of the hotel’s employees are under the age of 30.
Members of the family
Aileen Fraser continued: “When being assessed for the award, we were told that many of our team members described their experience of working at the hotel like being a member of the family which is good to hear and highlights that we have the right culture in our business, driven from the top by the hotel General Manager, Stuart Cran. Our Investors in Young People plaque will soon take pride of place in the hotel!”
