Gatwick gets fresh with new Wondertree restaurant

By James Russell: Gatwick gets fresh with new Wondertree restaurant

January 6, 2015

Gatwick Airport has announced that Wondertree, an all-day dining experience from the creators of Giraffe restaurants, is the latest high-quality new restaurant to move to the airport.

The new restaurant has been secured by The Restaurant Group plc and follows a highly successful year of new openings at Gatwick for TRG Concessions.

The Wondertree restaurant will open at Gatwick’s South Terminal in summer 2015. Its location will allow passengers to take advantage of airfield views over the runway and it has been designed to complement other brands already in the terminal. The restaurant will include:

  • A 5,250 square foot restaurant space offering seats and runway views for up to 200 passengers to relax in and enjoy
  • High-quality natural and fresh foods cooked to order in an open kitchen with all dishes served within 15 minutes
  • The offer of both a café for passengers to grab-and-go food and a full service restaurant for those that want to relax and enjoy the views
  • An extensive menu that includes daily fresh breads, morning pastries, sandwiches and all day breakfast dishes as well as small and large plates, global salads, smoothies and shakes – food choices include a dedicated kids menu and gluten free options
  • A huge drinks choice from loose-leaf teas and fair trade coffee through to a range of independent wines, world beers, ciders and sangria sharing punches for larger groups
  • A bright, colourful & contemporary design that includes globe lights, telescopes and map tables so that customers can explore the world even before setting foot on a plane

Charlotte Christiansen, Business Development Manager for Catering at Gatwick, said: “Wondertree’s exciting offer of freshly prepared food from around the world is a perfect addition as we continue to transform the dining experience for passengers. Wondertree completes a great year of new restaurants for Gatwick with many more exciting additions planned for 2015.”

Nick Ayerst, Managing Director, TRG Concessions said: “When challenged by Gatwick to offer an iconic casual restaurant for the South terminal, we naturally thought of Wondertree. Wondertree embraces the new generation of eating and drinking and promises to provide a unique experience for Gatwick passengers. We are delighted to have won the space and are committed to serving Gatwick airport and its passengers for years to come.”

Wondertree is the latest addition to a range of leading restaurants to join Gatwick this year, including wagamama (announced earlier this month) and Nandos which opened this summer. In total Gatwick has seen more than 15 new restaurants open in the past three years.
