Tulse Hill Hotel re-opens

By James Russell: Tulse Hill Hotel re-opens

December 8, 2014

Following an extensive refurbishment, this historic nineteenth century public house is due to re-open on Monday 8 December as the Tulse Hill Hotel. This exciting new venture is be housed in a beautiful early Victorian period building that dates back to 1840 when it was originally the Tulse Hill Hotel.

The boutique hotel has undergone a comprehensive £1.5 million renovation by The Metropolitan Pub Company, taking the building back to its brick core and returning it to its former glory with great care, thought and sympathy towards its heritage.

This historic 19th century public house has been fully restored and developed into a hotel using many period fixtures, fittings and original architectural detail.

The hotel will boast nine distinctive and beautifully appointed bedrooms as well as a restaurant, private dining room seating up to 14 people, chef’s table which will host up to five guests, a bar and lounge area and landscaped garden with seating area.

The bedrooms

Amongst the nine rooms, there will be one single room and three standard doubles, each with a stunning en suite shower room. Furthermore, there will be two feature rooms, which will include a sofa bed, making them suitable for families and three superior double rooms, which can also be converted into twin rooms. All of the feature and superior double rooms will be further fitted with a separate bath to ensure guests are in complete luxury. The bedrooms are designed in monochrome with crisp white linen accompanied by an accent of brightly coloured fabrics.

The exterior will retain much of the architectural detail, maintaining the original signage and copper lanterns, whilst the interior will feature design aspects such as wooden parquet flooring, classic black and white tiling, wooden panelling and a reclaimed 1920’s bar. The bar will offer six rotating ales with a focus on London cask producers and ten draft products, including guest lagers such as Camden Pilsner and Truman’s Pale Ale. Additionally, there is an extensive wine list that focuses on organic and biodynamic wines.

The Tulse Hill Hotel is home to an exquisitely designed neighbourhood restaurant where Head Chef Daniel Stevens (River Cottage, L’atelier des Chefs) will be taking the helm. The kitchen boasts an open design, featuring robata grill and rotisserie. Daniel’s menu will focus on seasonal British ingredients and will include dishes such as the LA Grand Central Market burger (inspired by Daniel’s recent travels); sea bass, pork belly and celeriac and lemon tart.
