Fulham’s fun-loving foodies now have their own slice of La Dolce Vita, in the stylish and cool shape of Spiaggia, a brand new Italian restaurant and bar in Fulham Broadway.
Centered on a passion for all things Italian, the concept behind Spiagga (‘beach’ in Italian) is to create a chilled-out urban beach-themed retreat in the heart of the capital. Step into this uber-chic space and be instantly transported to the Italian Riviera courtesy of a sunny Mediterranean palette of warm yellows and cool aquas set against lime-washed tongue-and-groove and painted timber, punctuated with tongue-in-cheek flourishes like sunloungers and vintage arcade games.
Retro-cool neon signs invite you to ‘Dive in’ and ‘Relax’ (in Italian, of course), and downstairs in the chilled out basement bar – or ‘lower deck’, accessed by an intriguing hidden entrance – you can do just that, with daybeds to lounge on while you sip deliciously decadent beach-themed cocktails and enjoy a casual game of backgammon.
The menu on offer in the ground floor 50-seat restaurant is equally eclectic, created by Mish Haddad drawing inspiration from his experiences living and working in Italy, which cemented his love affair with the country’s fantastic food and wine. It was there he discovered the delights of piadinas, thin Italian flatbreads with a variety of delicious fillings. Expect irresistible combinations like Salami Napoli, Mozzarella and San Marzano tomatoes and Toma cheese with wild mushroom and truffle oil. Those with a sweet tooth will love the Bella Donna, featuring Nutella, banana and Baileys.
In keeping with the casual vibe, the piattini (Italian tapas) are perfect for sharing. Choose from the tempting likes of arancini, fried fresh calamari, tuna tartare and chargilled Napoli salsiccia. Also on offer is a fresh and fabulous selection of innovative salads, authentic pasta dishes and spiedini (skewers from the grill) in various creative incarnations, including vegetarian options, as well as an irresistible collection of Italian desserts.
