Safestay to open Holland Park luxury hostel

By James Russell: Safestay to open Holland Park luxury hostel

December 8, 2014

Luxury hostel brand, Safestay will be opening a new 380-bed Safestay hostel in Holland Park, West London in April 2015 following a £2 million refurbishment.

The historic Grade 1 listed building, within Holland Park, is owned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and has until recently operated as a YHA Hostel. The property forms part of the original Jacobean building which dates back to 1607, as well as the 1950’s extension which created a central courtyard and garden.

In addition to excellent transport links, Safestay Holland Park will benefit from amenities right on its doorstep. The hostel forms the backdrop for the open-air Holland Park Opera and is located near The Belvedere restaurant and the Park’s sporting facilities which include a cricket pitch, football pitch and tennis courts.  For children, there is a new Ecology centre and an adventure playground.  The hostel is ten minutes from High Street Kensington, fifteen minutes from Portobello Road, and one tube stop from Westfield Shopping Centre.

“This is an iconic building in the heart of central London. We are delighted to have secured it and we believe that the overall appeal of the building, combined with its unique location within Holland Park itself, will mean it soon becomes one of London’s flagship hostels,” comments Larry Lipman, Managing Director of Safestay.

The acquisition, in the heart of one of central London’s most desirable locations, follows the brand’s successful listing on AIM earlier this year and paves the way for further expansion in the UK and Europe.

Transformation of the UK hostel market

After years of under-investment the UK hostel market is undergoing a transformation. Setting a new standard in stylish, affordable and comfortable accommodation, Safestay appeals to a broad community of guests with their statement heritage buildings, fabulous interiors and prime city centre locations.

With rates starting from £20 per night, savvy travellers across the spectrum, from students and young adults to families and business travellers, are actively seeking out hostels for their design credentials and communal vibe as much as for their affordable offering.

Safestay’s portfolio includes the award-winning Safestay Elephant & Castle, London (opened in July 2012) and Safestay York (officially re-launching in January 2015 following its refurbishment).  Safestay’s expansion plans include a European wide network of hostels.
