Beer Tester appointed for dream job

By James Russell: Beer Tester appointed for dream job

December 3, 2014

An ale aficionado has been recruited for what many would consider a dream job – being paid to visit pubs.

Jane Peyton, age 43 from Fulham, has been appointed an official Ale Tester by national pub chain Taylor Walker after her YouTube video review was voted top of the ‘hops’ by beer lovers across the UK.

Jane, who beat off stiff competition to secure the role, will now be tasked with visiting some of London’s most historic pubs, to taste different ales and submit her reviews online to the Taylor Walker website.

Taylor Walker Brand Manager, Helen McDermott, said: “We had some fantastic entries to our search for an Ale Tester, but our three finalists’ Carmen, Chas and Jane really stood out from the crowd.

“The pub-going public have now spoken, selecting Jane as our official Ale Tester and we’re looking forward to helping her realise pint perfection at some of our most historic and culturally significant pubs during the coming months.”

As well as her recent appointment as Taylor Walker’s Ale Tester, Jane is also the author of several books including ‘Beer o’ Clock,’ is Britain’s Beer Sommelier of the Year, as well as being the driving force behind Britain’s first annual national beer day – Beer Day Britain – which will take place from June 15th 2015.

One of Jane’s first tasks will be to visit her local Taylor Walker pub, the Prince of Wales on Lillie Road. General Manager, James King, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Jane back to the pub in her new capacity as Ale Tester. There was a huge response, so we’re really pleased that someone local to us has been selected for the role.

“Jane’s video is extremely impressive; we particularly liked the inventive way that she described her chosen beer, as ‘like Christmas cake in a glass.’”
