Buenos Aires arrives in Wimbledon with CAU

By James Russell: Buenos Aires arrives in Wimbledon with CAU

November 24, 2014

CAU, the restaurant group offering contemporary cuisine inspired by the vibrancy, colour and cultural diversity of Buenos Aires, recently added a flavour of the Argentinian capital to Wimbledon Village.

Unsurprisingly (grass-fed) Argentinian beef is prominent on the all-day menu at CAU, which also includes twice-cooked pork belly and pepper crusted seared tuna steak amongst dishes that are influenced by the melting pot that is Buenos Aires.

CAU Wimbledon seats 120 covers with limited al fresco dining for the warmer months. The key design motifs that have come to characterise a CAU restaurant will all be in evidence including corrugated booth seating, and use of bright blue sky and rich green grass imagery – both evoking the spirit of Argentina.

CAU Wimbledon will launch with CAU’s own brand wines available – including three Malbecs and one Marsanne Riesling – which have been introduced to specifically accompany some of the premium steaks on offer, all of which are cooked in a coal fired Josper grill oven.

Highlights include a Tira de Ancho, the king of steaks; a spiral cut of rib-eye, marinated in chimichurri and grilled slowly for maximum tenderness and the Lomito, a fillet of rump which is considered the finest cut in Argentina, combining the flavour of rump and the tenderness of fillet.

The premium items are just part of an accessible all day menu that includes breakfast with an Argentinian twist (Latin eggs – grilled avocado, poached eggs on a muffin with a drizzle of chimichurri or pancakes with dulce de leche) and a knock out Sunday Roast with beef fat roast potatoes.

Located in Wimbledon Village an area known for its up market boutiques and bustling atmosphere, CAU will bring something new and genuinely different to the crowded casual dining market in the area.

CAU Wimbledon marks the group’s fourth opening in 2014, following hot on the hooves of Bristol which opened in August, Kingston which opened in April and Tunbridge Wells (February). Wimbledon will be the seventh CAU restaurant in the UK.
