BrewDog brewery expansion plans

By James Russell: BrewDog brewery expansion plans

November 3, 2014

BrewDog’s breathless expansion continues with the announcement that, despite constantly investing in growing its production capability, it is not able to keep up with demand. Its current brew-house and fermentation capacity is likely to be maxed-out by the end of 2015.

Accordingly, it is planning a new 4500m2 building, which would join onto the current brewery building and house a new 300HL brew-house. In addition to the brew-house, a new tank farm is planned on the site. The aim is to be operational by the start of 2016, with construction beginning early in 2015.

Despite the scale of these expansion plans, BrewDog points out that it is still ‘tiny’ – less than 7% of the size of Sierra Nevada and a fraction of the size of the likes of Lagunitas, Stone, DogFish Head and Victory.

BrewDog is currently 0.046% of the UK beer market, meaning that just one in every 2,200 beers drunk in the UK is a BrewDog beer. If they grow 10 times their current size they will still be less than 0.5% of the UK beer market.
