In an increasingly competitive hospitality sector it is essential that you do everything you can to ensure that your hotel is able to make the most out of every pound, as well as retain them, so the last thing you want to face is a personal injury claim from one of your guests.
With this in mind, you need to take your health and safety seriously, and no company understand that more than Jackloc, the company behind the award-winning and original Jackloc Universal window and door restrictors. Read on as they offer 3 basic health and safety tips for home owners that you should follow.
Act as though every guest is Mr Bean.
So what does that mean exactly? Provide a second little bed for Teddy?
What we mean by this is that you should think about health and safety at your hotel as if every guest was a walking disaster area, able to injure themselves or others without very much encouragement at all. How does this relate to you? You basically have to consider every possible risk throughout your establishment, no matter how inconsequential you may think it is.
This includes things like hard corners on tables and work surfaces that would be a risk to small children, as well as any step – regardless of depth.
A good general rule of thumb is that at no point during a health and safety check should you think to yourself, “That will probably be okay.”
Window security is key.
How many rooms do you have in your hotel? 5, 10, 100? In each of those there (most likely) will be at least one window, and depending on where in the building the room is, that could pose a genuine health and safety risk if it opens enough for even a small child to climb out of.
Jackloc’s universal window and door restrictors can eliminate this risk by reducing the amount a window can be opened and ensuring that no one can fall. These dynamic window restrictors are incredibly strong despite their discreet appearance, while they are also available in a range of different colours and designs, so they will look right at home alongside any room decor.
Be vigilant… and react promptly.
No matter how hard you work to ensure that health and safety risks are dealt with, sometimes something will happen which you can’t legislate for, and in these instances it is essential that you are two things: vigilant and quick to act.
You may think that you’re covered by simply putting up a sign stating ‘Wet Floor’, ‘Out of Order’ or ‘Caution….’, but in actual fact the only way you can be sure that you would not be liable for any accident is to respond immediately – or as soon as reasonably possible – to a problem.
How do you respond to health and safety issues in your establishment, and what advice would you give to hotel owners? Let us know in the comments below.
