Windermere Hotel wins National Award!

By James Russell: Windermere Hotel wins National Award!

October 27, 2014

The Cranleigh Boutique has been announced as the winner in the ‘Best Use of Facebook’ category at the 2014 UK Social Media Awards, held at the Emirates Stadium in London to celebrate the very best in 18 categories of social media communications across the UK and to recogne the companies and individuals leading the way through their innovation and creativity.

Best Use of Facebook

The Cranleigh Boutique triumphed in a highly competitive classification, with seven other organisations such as Evian, Aldi and Visit England hoping to take the top spot.  Judges from companies such as google, twitter and McDonalds were tasked with the tough selection, with Co-Chair of the CIPR Social Media Panel, Gemma Griffiths, presenting the award on stage to the Cranleigh’s General Manager, Emma Johnson.  The judges hailed the Cranleigh’s on-going Facebook campaign as:

“Really smart!  Our judges felt this was a genuine Facebook campaign that had great objectives which was shown within the result.  The Cranleigh Boutique took control of their customer pipeline to generate the leads, shifting them to direct email channels and increasing success.”

100,000 ‘likes’

In addition to winning a clutch of awards since 2013, the Cranleigh Boutique has become infamous in the region for its outstanding Facebook campaign, amassing almost 100,000 ‘likes’ in an eighteen month period and being named the most romantic hotel in the UK in 2013 and the most romantic hotel in the North of England in 2014, both by Trip Advisor.  In March of this year, they won the ‘Best Use of Social Media’ award at the Travel Marketing awards in London, beating P&O Ferries and Bournemouth Tourism.

“We are still in disbelief at having won this award, particularly against massive corporations such as Aldi and Evian.” said owner of the Cranleigh Boutique, Stephen Hargreaves.  “At the end of the day, we are a small family run hotel in the Lake District, so to be able to compete and win at this level is fantastic.  It also demonstrates the strength of Cumbrian business and we are delighted to be able to represent the county in such a way.”
