Simple elegant design instilling wellbeing, a winning combination

By James Russell: Simple elegant design instilling wellbeing, a winning combination

October 22, 2014

This week, we met with Mike Frost, Managing Director of Pasture Naturals at their offices in Poole to gain a better understanding of the business.

Pasture Naturals is a micro British brand with washroom products that enhance health and wellbeing, supporting priority areas in relation to customer satisfaction.

Can you give us a brief history of the business?

Pasture Naturals has grown steadily in its eight years to provide luxury toiletries to a diverse cross section of public and private sector clients, including hotels, bars and restaurants.  This growth follows customer demand for retail quality away from home products and the requirement for continuous improvement to compete for customer loyalty.

How does the business work with customers?

Pasture works hand in hand with clients and partner distributors who provide consolidated deliveries of multiple items, enabling budgets to be maximised and increase quality to their customers.  We are very proud of our collection of five luxury products that contain natural ingredients and are tested to EN standard.  Our refill packs keep the bottles topped up while our carefully-designed holders keep the bottles secure; our packaging complements the design of quality, high end establishments.

Our products have been designed to appeal to customers who make their buying decisions based on the experience and reputation of a hospitality establishment.  Independent research into the hospitality sector has identified that the quality of food, service and facilities have a direct relationship to repeat revenue:

  • Restaurants – 88% admit hygienic washroom facilities are an important factor in returning
  • Cafes – 48% admit to not returning due to poor hygiene standards
  • Hotels – 25% admit to not returning for the same reason

How many times have we been to a restaurant and greeted warmly, sat at the table with crisp linen and polished glasses and watched first rate theatre cooking before heading to the washroom and seeing poor hygiene standards, which has consequently led us to question the experience?

How do potential new customers begin the process of selecting a specific product or service?

We believe there is another approach towards sustainable procurement, providing value beyond price.  Our proprietary model for hotels identifies financial and sustainability benefits, with over 90% savings on packaging and deliverable savings against the bottom line.

Our in house design team have created our website and a quick look at this will show our approach; clean, quite unique and beautifully British.

Our distributors provide national coverage with local representation; these teams know the heartbeat of our clients’ requirements and are able to identify where we are best suited.  Pasture has been referred to as a measure of quality in establishments, where we are proud to be displayed and we love to visit as many as possible.

Are there any developments you looking at in the near future?

Pasture is growing quickly and having fun while heading into new fields; we have a crop of new products which will be available over the next quarter and can’t wait to share these with the market.

Why is sustainability important to you?

We share similar objectives as our clients towards sustainability.  It is now commonplace to see initiatives such as re-using towels, implementing water saving and utilising LED.  We believe Pasture offers the next natural step towards the Government’s carbon plans to cut the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.  Our proposal is based on engaging the four capitals of sustainable procurement, including initiatives such as saving natural resources, diverting waste from landfill and being good corporate citizens with revenue targets linked to water projects that will deliver real benefits to communities.

You’re a British Brand, we know this is important to many of our readers, why is it important to you?

In an international market with global supply chains we are proud of our commitment to uphold our pedigree as a British brand.  Pasture engages the market with its partners that are all micro and SME businesses, which have British ownership, design, engineering and manufacture.  We are proud of our provenance, skill and the flexibility this delivers.

H & C News comment: It was a pleasure to sit down with Mike Frost to gain an insight of what makes Pasture Naturals tick, a passion for a sustainable British product, backed up with service at every level.  We have tested the products too, the simple design is elegant and the product does instil a sense of wellbeing, a winning combination in our view.
