In late October, Origin will be welcoming a new and highly anticipated appointment: Joshua Tarlo, who came second in this week’s Canadian Barista Championship, will be joining the team in the high profile role of Coffee Development Manager.
Speciality coffee portfolio
Joshua’s appointment represents an exciting time for Origin. He will be responsible for the sourcing and roast profiles of their speciality coffee portfolio, and he will become the global representative for the brand with extensive travel fostering existing farmer relationships and identifying and nurturing new ones.
With his enviable experience in the industry – both in Canada and Australia – and ambitious plans, this is a showcase of Origin’s continued commitment to offer their customers the finest in speciality coffee, including incredible small lot crops.
Relocating from Canada
Joshua will be relocating from Canada for the appointment, where he currently works as the country’s representative for Ninety Plus promoting and selling speciality green coffee, as well as running education and training programs.
Joshua’s brewing skills are also clearly evident in his coming second in the Canadian Barista Championships last week, winning the Canadian Brewers Cup in 2013 as well as gaining 3rd place in the World Brewers Cup 2013. So the UK can expect to see an exciting new talent on the competition stage.
Tom Sobey, founder of Origin said, “With the UK industry seeing such exponential growth, and consumer interest in speciality never being higher, this is an exciting time. Joshua’s appetite for experimenting and pushing the speciality coffee industry will ensure that Origin continue to lead the way.”
About Origin Coffee
Origin Coffee is one of the UK’s leading speciality coffee roasters, based in Cornwall.
They believe that seasonal coffee traded directly is the best way to ensure an exceptional product and achieve this by visiting the farms and mills they work with directly (or do so through their trusted partners) and rewarding them for producing the best quality crops through sustainable and ethical practices. Origin coffees are rotated based on seasonality with monthly single origin’s and special small lot coffees.
The coffee beans are roasted at Origin in Cornwall, using a Loring Smart Roast, the world’s first environmentally friendly coffee roaster.
This pursuit of quality continues with the baristas they work with: amongst the best in the country, including UK Barista Champions.
Origin coffee can be experienced in leading independent cafes, restaurants, boutique hotels and online here
