Craft cider and pizza restaurant The Stable has recently opened its seventh restaurant in the custom house in Falmouth.
Unique character of the building
The award winning restaurant, which has sites across the South West of England, has spent the last 4 months renovating the grade two star listed building which had laid dormant since 2012. “We’ve really worked with the unique character of the building when designing this restaurant. This is really evident upstairs in the historic Long Room” said Nikki Cooper, Co-Founder of The Stable. “It has taken a lot of hard work but it was great to open our doors finally on Wednesday – in fact one of the first people we welcomed into the restaurant was the last person to lock it up when it ceased its operation as Falmouth’s custom house in 2012!”
About The Stable
The Stable began life in 2009 in a 16th century stable block in Bridport, Dorset and has built a well earned reputation for its stone baked sourdough pizzas that use fresh, locally sourced toppings. Cornish heritage is represented in the pizza names such as “The Pendennis Piggy”, “The Smithick Scorcher” and “The Mignonette”, which is named after the infamous crew who landed in the Falmouth Custom House in the 19th century after being shipwrecked at sea for 24 days and reduced to eating one of their crew.
The Stable is well known for its wide selection of local craft ciders as well; over half of their eighty varieties coming from Cornwall, with everything from local scrumpies to twenty year old cider brandies on offer. To help customers find their preferred drink, they will be serving a cider tasting board, consisting of five 1/3 pints of different cider.
