Tesco has opened a new Tesco Express on Philpot Lane, just a short walk away from the new ‘Walkie Talkie’ building in the City of London – offering a wide range of food to eat on-the-go, and including a Fred’s Food Construction food counter (above).
The ‘Fred’s’ concept opened its first restaurant in Osterley earlier this year, is modelled on a New York style deli, and will provide hot breakfast and lunch sandwiches, porridge and pastries in the morning and tea and coffee throughout the day.
The 1,000 sq ft store has been designed to cater primarily for the busy office worker community who work in the area, including the 8,000 workers in the soon-to-open ‘Walkie Talkie’ building.
The store has been designed with the time-conscious office worker in mind, primarily using new ‘Slimline’ checkouts which use less space than traditional units. The checkouts will all be compatible with contactless payment, allowing customers to pick up their food and pay in a matter of seconds.
Breakfast deals
Fred’s provides two breakfast deals – a filter coffee or tea and pastry or porridge for £2.50 and a filter coffee or tea and hot breakfast sandwich for £3.50. Breakfast will be served from 6.30-11am M-F and also available on the weekends. For lunch, Fred’s will deliver sandwiches for free to nearby offices for orders of at least £25.
