Eclectic Bar Group plc (Eclectic), the UK’s operator of 23 premium bars and clubs across the UK, has announced major refurbishments of two of its venues. Eclectic Bar Group brands include Sakura, Dirty Blonde, Lola Lo, Fez and Po Na Na.
Sakura, Bournemouth
Lola Lo on Richmond Hill , Bournemouth, has now re-opened as Sakura, Eclectic’s Japanese-style bar brand.
Sakura will blend contemporary Japanese cool with timeless glamour, offering full table service. Dark woods contrast with light leather seating and key features include a sunken bar and illuminated dance floors.
Alongside an extensive range of premium champagnes, wines and spirits, Sakura has a cocktail menu which includes classics such as the Bellini, Mojito and Cosmopolitan and a range of blends with a distinctly Japanese twist. These include Sake Snap – butterscotch flavoured sake, butterscotch schnapps and Amarula shaken with hazelnut syrup, cream and milk, and Cherry Blossom – Luxardo amaretto and cherry liquor, blended with lemon and cranberry juices.
Eclectic’s existing Sakura bars, in Manchester and Reading, have proved highly successful. Discussing the launch, Lee Nicolson, the company’s chief operating officer, said, “Japan has a very distinctive approach to design, and we like to think that we’ve managed to bring the best of it to Bournemouth .”
Embargo 59 re-born as Embargo Republica
Embargo Republica, which is designed to capture the spirit, style and smoothness of Cuba, will bring an exuberant mix of grit and glamour to Chelsea’s famous King’s Road.
The venue has been revamped and expanded and will offer guests a Cuban-themed bar and entertainment venue. The rooftop bar has been enlarged and re-designed to emulate a true Caribbean island paradise.
Music is at the heart of Cuban culture and Embargo Republica will pride itself on the range of live bands, DJs and acoustic acts that will take to the stage each week. From Victor Hugo & the Mambo Boys to Salsa Fuego Trio, the club is kept beating and buzzing from early to late with infectious Latin rhythms.
“We have gone all-out to create a tropical haven that oozes style and finery through the essence of Cuban al-fresco living, from the chilled-out vibe of the early evening to the all-out pleasure of dancing the night away to smooth, sensual beats”, explains Andy Johnson, the venue’s general manager.
Fusing the cool and contemporary, Embargo Republica is entered through a cigar shop to the exposed brickwork and timber exterior, where vintage furniture provide rest for legs weary after all that dancing.
Bartenders are well-versed in the alchemy of blending cocktails and the bar also has an impressive premium champagne menu, featuring the very best vintages from the finest houses. The Rum Bar offers more than 20 rums from across the world, a range that highlights Cuba ’s best-loved liquor through a selection that covers everything from the classic to the curious.
