Das Kino transforms iconic building

By James Russell: Das Kino transforms iconic building

September 24, 2014

Nottingham’s newest bar has opened its doors after months of work to transform one of the city’s most iconic buildings.

Das Kino on Fletcher Gate is spread over 3000 sq feet and is now furnished with bespoke industrial lighting, cinema seating, classic pop art and a reclaimed wooden floor sourced from a local church.

The venue also boasts two large bars, four ping-pong tables, which can be booked in advance, and a 1950’s photo booth.

Adam Sumner, general manager at Das Kino said: “We’re really pleased with the finished look and feel of the bar and we’ve been getting some great feedback from customers.

“The ping-pong tables are proving to be a real hit with some healthy competition developing between friends, and those not interested in doing anything energetic, are enjoying the chilled out environment and the chance to try one of our premium cocktails.”

Das Kino boasts an impressive drinks menu including their unique Pechenye White Russian with added caramel biscuit spread and their Amaretto Sour with a dollop of rhubarb and ginger jam. They have also worked hard to create an impressive assortment of world beers, imported from as far as Hawaii and Iceland, not to mention their own take on coke floats, which have to be tried to be believed.

On the food front, taking residence in Das Kino is Oscar and Rosie’s. The pop up style restaurant will serve diners classic fresh pizzas with an Oscar and Rosie’s twist, which will be available at lunchtime or from a late night slice counter serving until the early hours.

Olly Hunter, the man behind Oscar and Rosie’s said: “All the food is locally sourced and is created fresh on site. Our pizza sauces are made from scratch and even the cheese is cut by hand so it melts just right.

“It’s great to be taking residence in Das Kino and we’re looking forward to even more people trying our food, either for a relaxing lunchtime bite or a slice of pizza with friends after a few drinks.”

Das Kino is open seven days a week from 12noon until 2am: for more information, visit Das Kino on Facebook or follow on Twitter at @daskinonotts.
