Chicago Rib Shack takes neighbourhood format to Clapham

By James Russell: Chicago Rib Shack takes neighbourhood format to Clapham

September 1, 2014

Chicago Rib Shack, the iconic BBQ restaurant brand, has just opened its latest outlet in Clapham. This is the first venture as part of its new neighbourhood format which will see three or four new openings within the next twelve months.

Its vibrant new interior has been created by 44th Hill’s Stuart Taylor, making the most of its railway arch location just of the high street, and the concept retains all the ingredients that made its existing food court and pop-up stores a success. This winning formula has been adapted to create a blended restaurant and bar set-up, offering full-service with an expanded menu.

Important milestone

Christian Arden, CEO of Chicago Rib Shack said, “This is an important milestone for the company. I am delighted of the look and feel of the new style Chicago Rib Shack, serving the neighbourhood. The wider menu is going down really well, paving the way for the future development of the group.”

Initial activity has included a soft launch, blogger evening and a series of special offers to engage locals and encourage repeat visits. The restaurant will be open all-day, serving American and home smoked food, as well as great drinks and cocktails.

Leading hospitality sector agency, Elliotts, supported the launch with brand development services, helping the team to refine the concept to be the ‘go-to-place’ in the neighbourhood.

The Chicago Rib Shack began back in 1982 when founder, Bob Payton, decided that after visiting 85 restaurants in 10 cities in America and eating all kinds of BBQ, that it was time to open the best BBQ restaurant in Europe.

After two successful sites in Knightsbridge, in 2012 the business transitioned to the new Westfield Centre, Stratford just in time for the Summer Olympic Games. Additional sites have since been added at Southampton’s WestQuay Shopping Centre and Leeds Trinity Centre.

Each future venue will be adapted to best suit its neighbourhood and involvement in the community.
