Battersea Power Station: global launch + search for F&B outlets

By James Russell: Battersea Power Station: global launch + search for F&B outlets

September 10, 2014

Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) is taking Battersea Power Station global with a worldwide tour in October and November 2014 to 13 cities in 11 countries. The aim is to find the most exciting UK and global brands, businesses and restaurants to bring alive London’s newest high street and the capital’s largest and most central development.

Phase 1 of the mixed-use scheme will open in 2016 and once the entire project is completed in 2025, the 42-acre development will be home to 25,000 people living and working on site. With 40 million visits anticipated each year, Battersea Power Station will be one of the largest retail, leisure and cultural complexes in central London, with businesses on site forecast to contribute almost £1 billion a year to the UK economy in the first 20-years of operating.

Multiple opportunities throughout for F&B outlets

Now, businesses of a similarly world-class calibre are to be selected to lease the 3.5 million sq.ft. of commercial space:

  • 250 retail and food & beverage outlets planned for the development, with the first 40 operators to open in late 2016 in Circus West (Phase 1). Drawing inspiration from the best of London’s shopping ‘villages’ – Shoreditch, Soho and Marylebone High Street, both independent and high-end retailers across the 42-acre site will be encouraged to offer experiential and unique propositions to enhance the Battersea experience.
  • 115 retail and food & beverage units will be set in the show-stopping setting of the Power Station, over the ground, upper ground and first floors of the Boiler House and the two Turbine Halls. In addition, a 30,000 sq. ft. fashion hub of new London graduate talent will be developed to aid and nurture design, business development, showcasing and the art of selling.
  • Phase 3 of the development will see more than 50 large retail and food & beverage units open in 2020 to create London’s newest high street designed by Foster + Partners and Frank Gehry. The high street is the southern pedestrian gateway, linking the new Northern Line extension with the rest of the development.
  • Food & beverage operators will offer their fare across the site through a range of concepts – from food stalls, pop-ups, cafes, fine dining and food markets. In the Power Station a whole floor will be devoted to a bespoke mix of food and beverage brands in a new collective style for customers to enjoy.
  • Leasing the state-of-the-art leisure facilities including a new 2,000 capacity Riverside event venue for London located within the middle floors of the central Boiler House of the Power Station; two boutique hotels, 60-rooms in the Power Station and 167-rooms in the Foster + Partners designed Battersea Roof Gardens building; an observation lift and viewing platform planned for the North West chimney of the Power Station; cinemas, music venues, members clubs and health and fitness.

Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, Chairman of the Battersea Project Holding Company Limited, said: “The shareholders’ ambition for Battersea Power Station is to create an amazing new urban quarter for London and one that is enjoyed both day and night. This is behind the drive to find the very best mix of UK and world-wide businesses to lease over 3 million sq. ft. of retail and office accommodation.”

Retailers, leisure operators and businesses looking to explore the commercial opportunities at Battersea Power Station at the exhibitions planned around the world, are invited to register their interest at www.batterseapowerstation.co.uk
