What’s Hot? British dining trends

By James Russell: What’s Hot? British dining trends

August 15, 2014

Bookatable has issued its Quarterly Dining Trends report revealing Britain’s hottest dining trends from the last twelve months; the report unveils the UK’s favourite restaurants, most popular food types and rising stars of international cuisine.

Quarterly Dining Trends report looks at Britain’s most popular restaurants from July 2013 – June 2014 from Bookatable’s database of 800,000 diners. Regionally, London, Birmingham and Manchester proved to be the UK’s most in-demand gastro spots, with London taking a majority 52 percent share of overall bookings, followed by Birmingham (22%) and Manchester (20%).

Experience as well as food

Suggesting that a visit to a restaurant is equally about the experience than the food, London’s OXO Tower Brasserie ranked number one of the ten most popular dining locations in the UK, taking a 21 per cent share of bookings made from July 2013 – June 2014, followed by Afternoon Tea at the Ritz (13 per cent) and The Rainforest Café (11 per cent).

Britain’s also proved that they have a place in their hearts for Britain’s most renowned chain restaurants, with six of Jamie’s Italian restaurants (Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Glasgow and Cardiff) accounting for a 58 per cent share of the ten most popular restaurants in the UK that are located outside London.

Scottish restaurants also experienced an increase thanks to the allure of the Commonwealth Games, taking a 33 per cent in the number of bookings enjoyed compared to the previous year.
